Abstract. We employ the quantum deformation concept to study significant pairing correlations and phenomena of a many-body character in atomic nuclei within the mass 40 <= A <= 100 domain. While the nondeformed (q -> 1) limit of the theory provides a reasonable global description of certain nuclear properties and fine structure effects driven by the pairing interaction, the results show that the q-deformation plays a significant role in understanding higher-order effects in the interaction. The latter are a clear indication for physics beyond a simple two-body nuclear force.
