Properties of a Special Function Pertaining to Approximately Scale-Invariant Random Fields

Abstract. We derive a third-order differential equation and study some of the properties of a special function, which serves to express two of solutions of the equation. The third is found to be simply a power-law function. The study is motivated by models of approximately scale-invariant random fields introduced by us earlier. The scale invariance of these fields is embodied in the leading asymptotic behavior of the function considered here.
