Abstract. The absorption and luminescence properties of Nd3+ activated optical fibers have been studied in the 400-1200 nm spectral range. The activator maximum tesonance absorption bands and the absoUute values of the spectral attenuation coefficients have been found. Under resonance excitation by the second harmonic of the Nd3+:YAG laser, luminescence spectra have been recorded in regions centred around 900 nm and 1060 nm. The lifetime of the upper laser level has been evaluated.
