Abstract. It is shown that for the mean-field approximation the spin-1 model of Blume-Emery-Griffins (BEG-model) corresponds exactly, in the relation to the phase transition, to the spin-1/2 Ising model when the number of the nearest neighbours z is replaced by cz, where c (0 ≤ c ≤ 1) is the concentration of sites with nonzero spin in the BEG-model.
