Extensions of the Virasoro Algebra

Abstract. We describe a chain of super extensions of the Virasoro algebra, arising naturally from a simple geometric construction, and a correspondence between this chain and a chain of finite simple groups which arise as subquotients of the Conway group. This chain of groups is closely related to the Suzuki chain, and includes three sporadic simple groups.
